How to empty the public spam folder automatically

You can automatically empty the public spam folder by configuring an age limit for its contents. Every night, messages older than the configured age limit are deleted automatically.

Exchange 2000/2003

1. Launch the Microsoft Exchange System Manager.
2. In the left pane of the Exchange System Manager, expand the Administrative Groups object, then the First Administrative Groups object, then the Folders object, and then the Public Folders object.
3. Right-click the Spam Folder.
4. Click Properties
5. Click the Limits tab.
6. Uncheck the Use public store defaults box.
7. In the Age limit for replicas box, enter the maximum age, in days, for messages in the Public Spam Folder.
8. Click Apply.
9. Click OK and close the the Microsoft Exchange System Manager.

Exchange 2007

1. Launch the Exchange Management Console.
2. In the left pane, click on Toolbox.
3. Launch the Public Folder Management Console.
4. Click on Default Public Folders.
5. Right click on the Spam folder and select Properties.
6. Click on the Replication tab.
7. From the drop down, select Run every hour.
8. Enter a number for Local replica age limit (days).
9. click OK and close the Public Folder Management Console.
