SAN FRANCISCO — Nov. 3, 2003 — Cloudmark, Inc. and Sendmail Inc. today announced a strategic partnership after months of exhaustive, end-to-end testing of 42 other anti-spam products and services revealed Authority™, Cloudmark's enterprise anti-spam solution, to be the best for its customers needs ­ from lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) to highest effectiveness. Sendmail, the leading provider of integrated message management solutions that handles over 60 percent of the email flowing across the Internet, spent several months evaluating dozens of anti-spam solutions, running millions of email messages through each. After conducting the most rigorous and competitive testing to date, Sendmail selected Cloudmark to deliver the best overall spam protection to its customer base, which includes 70 percent of the Fortune 1000. Cloudmark, the company that delivers spam protection to thousands of businesses including Documentum, Fidelity, Restoration Hardware, Asics and Nolte, outshined the other anti-spam candidates with its first-ever automated spamDNA™ technology that delivers phenomenal accuracy and the lowest number of false positives all with unsurpassed performance.

Cloudmark/Sendmail integration

Authority interfaces to Sendmail directly through the Milter interface, drastically simplifying and accelerating the deployment of anti-spam technology in an enterprise. Authority also runs in memory, so there's only 5-10 percent impact on the Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) compared to others at 40 percent, and it requires no new hardware. This means that customers will be able to quickly get up and running with the highest performance spam detection and still maintain the full functionality of the Sendmail MTA on the front and back end. It will also result in a deployment that is faster than many of the proxy solutions on the market because it does not have to be sandwiched between two more capable MTAs to meet the needs of today's complicated enterprise mail systems. In addition, Authority operates without a connection to Cloudmark. Other solutions require a constant connection to external servers which entails reconfiguring firewalls in order to update their rules every minute.
