RELEASE DETAILS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Software Version = (2.1) Patch Number = (5) Build Number = (39) Date of Build = (May 19, 2008) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ II. NEW FEATURES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Latest Cloudmark Fingeringprinting Algorithms - CSE 2.1 contains all of the very latest Cloudmark Fingerprint Algorithms. Support for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 (version 2.1.0.17 and higher) - CSE 2.1 has been compatibility tested for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 requires MAPI/CDO to be installed in order to work properly with CSE, please refer to the CSE Admin Guide for more details. Scheduled Daily Rescan (as of 2.1.0) - Allows the CSE Administrator to schedule a rescan of all mailboxes with filtering enabled on a daily basis at a specified time. - Cloudmark recommends setting the rescan time to be in the morning just before users of the system start generally start checking email. For instance, in an office environment where employees start work and start checking email around 8am, Cloudmark recommends set the daily rescan to run at 7am. Manual Rescan (as of 2.1.0) - Allows the CSE Administrator to rescan an individual mailbox on demand. This may be trigged from the MMC or via the new CSEcmd command line interface via the "scan" option. Notification of New Releases via the MMC - Allows the CSE Administrator to check inside the MMC to see if the CSE version is the most up-to-date version. Graphical Reporting - Allows the CSE Administrator to view graphical statistics on daily counts of: - Number of messages scanned - Number of messages filtered as spam - Number of messages blocked (dragged to spam folder by end user) - Number of messages unblocked (dragged out of spam folder by end user) - Accuracy Rate - False Positive Rate A basic graph is available inside the MMC and monthly graphs of all daily statistics can be requested on a schedule which are generated and stored on the CSE server. These graphs can be easily cut and pasted into Microsoft Word documents or used in reports to visually show the amount of spam being received by the CSE server. A csv file of the daily statistics is also available on a monthly basis, that can be imported into Microsoft Excel for further analysis and reporting. Performance Monitoring - Allows the CSE Administrator to add counters to the Windows Performance Console to monitor the performance of a CSE server in real time. Command Line Interface - CSEcmd - Allows the CSE Administrator to run the following CSE commands from the command line. - Enable/Disable spam filtering - Enable/Disable accuracy feedback (blocks and unblocks) - Scan a user mailbox on demand (rescans the entire mailbox) - List CSE mailboxes - Display CSE version information The command line interface can be used to create a self care Web UI where end users can enable and disable there own filtering. Ability to Export and Import Whitelists - This allows Whitelists to be shared between multiple servers by exporting the list from one server and importing it into the other servers. SOCKS Proxy Support has been removed - CSE 2.1 no longer supports SOCKS Proxy Configurable Accuracy Feedback Options - This allows the CSE Administrator to configurably disable accuracy feedback from CSE to Cloudmark. Accuracy Feedback can be disabled either per user or system wide. Cloudmark does not recommend disabling feedback. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ III. ENHANCEMENTS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Spam Filtering Options for Empty Messages available as MMC options - Treat Messages with No Subject AND No Body as spam - Allows email messages with no subject line and no body, to be treated as spam and filtered accordingly. - Cloudmark recommends leaving this option turned on. - Treat messages with A Subject BUT No Body as spam - Allows ALL email messages with a subject line but no body, to be treated as spam and filtered accordingly. This feature is turned OFF by default because of the danger of valid messages that have a subject line but no body being filtered as spam. This option is useful if the Exchange Server is the target of a directory harvesting spam attack where spammers sent messages with random subject lines but no message body. In this situation it can be turned on during the attack and then turned off. MMC look and feel updates - The CSE MMC icons have been updated with a new look and feel. Spam Filtering Options for NDR Messages ( as of 2.1.5.39) - Allows ALL messages which are NDRs (non-delivery reports) to be treated as spam and filtered accordingly. This feature is turned OFF by default because of the danger of filtering valid NDRs. But it can be turned on during a backscatter attack when spammers hijack user's email addresses and use it as the From address. This feature can be turned on by setting the following registry setting to 1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cloudmark\Cloudmark Server Edition\Properties\FilterNDRs ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ IV. REQUIREMENTS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The requirements for Cloudmark Server Edition are described in the Cloudmark Server Edition Installation and Administration Guide. Permissions - The CSE admin user must have read/write access to Public Folders in order for CSE to move spam messages to a Public Folder destination. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ V. KNOWN ISSUES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Performance Monitoring - At this time, perfmon does not support the setting: "Language for non-Unicode programs" when the language is set to a different language than the default language of the OS. (e.g. if the default language of the OS is English then the "Language for non-Unicode programs" must also be set to English in order for perfmon to work) - There is also a known issue using perfmon on 64-bit Operating Systems, please refer to the CSE Admin Guide for instructions on how to run the MMC in 32-bit mode on a 64-bit OS. Public Folder - Multiple installations of CSE in the same domain will create multiple Public Spam Folders. SOCKS Proxy Support has been removed - CSE 2.1 no longer supports SOCKS Proxy ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ VI. RESOLVED ISSUES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CSE MMC Usablity - The usablity of the CSE MMC has been improved with easier scrolling of large user lists. CSE Deadlock - The CSE deadlock that some customers encountered was identified and resolved in 2.1.2.24. CSE issues downloading meta data updates - Some installations of CSE were failing to download meta data updates due to firewall software blocking the downloads. Communication to Cloudmark Network has been modified to prevent CSE traffic from being blocked. Resolved in 2.1.5.39 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ VII.
