As mobile messaging attacks increase exponentially due to the increasing use of smart phones and the rapid adoption of mobile applications, they are also becoming more complex to elude the content based anti-abuse mechanisms that operators have started to deploy. This is the same evolution that has occurred in email security space, which resulted in the emergence of sender reputation systems.

Leveraging experiences in the email security space and in-depth understanding of the mobile infrastructure, Cloudmark developed Cloudmark Sender Intelligence for mobile network operators (CSI Mobile), a specialized global sender reputation system designed specifically for mobile senders. CSI Mobile combines real-time data from Cloudmark’s Global Threat Network system to create industry’s most comprehensive mobile sender reputation service. The mobile-specific data collected from the Cloudmark Global Threat Network consist of user feedback reports, real-time sender volume statistics, and real-time fingerprint volume statistics.

In addition to the data from mobile messaging environments, the Cloudmark Global Threat Network also collects real time data from traditional email environments around the world. The Cloudmark Global Threat Network includes over 2 billion users in 165 countries. Advanced Fingerprinting Algorithms

Cloudmark utilizes proprietary advanced fingerprinting algorithm to isolate sender characteristics within every mobile message scanned by Cloudmark Security Platform for Mobile Messaging. These characteristics include as subscriber, server, and vendor related identifiers such as, MSISDN and IMEI numbers, global title, point code, etc. By combining fingerprint correlation statistics, along with scanning statistics, feedback statistics from users and honeypots, Cloudmark can more rapidly identify spamming senders as well as good senders and close the vulnerability gap. By analyzing the correlation of multiple fingerprints in different messages, both spam and legitimate, CSI Mobile can proactively and reliably detects suspicious activity during the zero-hour attack phase.
