Messages temporarily disappear when receiving messages via IMAP

When receiving messages via IMAP, and the "fast message retrieval" option is set in Exchange, messages arrive in the Inbox, disappear, then reappear after a delay. This can happen in Windows 2000 or 2003

How to disable "fast message retrieval" for IMAP in Exchange:

1. Open the Exchange System Manager.
2. In the right pane, go to Administrative Groups > Servers > Protocols > IMAP4.
3. Right-click your IMAP4 Virtual Server to open the pop-up menu.
4. Select Properties.
5. In the General tab, uncheck "Enable fast message retrieval".
6. Click Apply.
