Hugh McCartney
Chief Executive Officer
Hugh McCartney is a seasoned executive with nearly 30 years experience in the computer software industry. Formerly an independent director of Cloudmark's board, Hugh joined Cloudmark as Chief Executive Officer in 2005 to drive Cloudmark’s global expansion and leadership in messaging infrastructure security solutions.
Hugh has served as chairman of UK-based Scapa Technologies, an innovator in security testing solutions; as executive and chairman of Neverfail, a global provider of fail-safe technologies; and as chairman of Centennial Software, a developer of network discovery tools. In addition, Hugh has held board positions within several European software companies, both venture funded and publicly traded. Hugh has also lobbied on Capitol Hill for the fight against messaging abuse. He remains an active voice and presenter at some of the industry’s largest fixed line and wireless events.
Eric S. Byunn
FTV Capital
Eric joined FTV Capital in 2002 and is currently a Partner leading the firm's software team. Eric has 14 years of experience in venture capital, technology and management consulting. Prior to joining FTV Capital, Eric was Director of Online Services at myCFO, a start-up wealth management firm. He joined myCFO from America Online, where he held several roles including management of Netscape's Personal Finance Channel. Prior to the acquisition of Netscape by AOL, Eric led product management for the Netscape Navigator browser. He has also worked at Microsoft and at McKinsey & Company, where he primarily worked with telecommunications clients. Eric received an AB summa cum laude from Harvard University, where he focused on economics and computer science, and an MBA from Stanford University, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar.
Ben Cukier
FTV Capital
Ben joined FTV Capital in 1999 and is currently a Partner leading investments in asset management, lending and banking. Ben was previously with the Telecommunications and Media Team at Madison Dearborn Partners in Chicago. Prior to joining Madison Dearborn Partners, Ben was with McKinsey & Co. in New York, where he consulted to clients in the telecommunications, Internet, and healthcare industries. Ben received his BS and BA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Stanford University.
Greg S. Goldfarb
Summit Partners
Greg S. Goldfarb joined Summit Partners in 2002. Prior to Summit, he worked for Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide where he was Director of E-Commerce and Director of Starwood’s Innovation Lab.
Based in Summit’s Palo Alto office, Greg is active in the firm’s investment activities in North America, Europe and Asia. His board directorships and investments include Cloudmark, IntelliChem (acquired by Symyx Technologies), LiveOffice, ProClarity Corporation (acquired by Microsoft), The Mutual Fund Store, Tiny Prints and Web Reservations International (acquired by Hellman & Friedman). Greg holds an AB, magna cum laude, in government from Harvard University.
Cameron Myhrvold
Ignition Partners
Cameron is a founding partner of Ignition. He invests in software and infrastructure companies. Cameron represents Ignition as director on the boards of Azaleos, Cloudmark, Likewise (formerly Centeris), Seven, Teranode, and Zenprise. He also acts as Ignition observer on the board of Splunk. He previously served on the boards of Consera (acquired by Hewlett Packard), Rendition Networks (acquired by Opsware) and RLX Technologies (acquired by Hewlett Packard). Cameron also serves on the board of Wild Tangent. Prior to Ignition, Cameron spent thirteen years with Microsoft Corporation, most recently as Vice President of the Internet Customer Unit, where he was responsible for building business relationships with network operators and a broad range of telecommunications providers. Cameron received his Bachelors degree from the University of California at Berkeley.
Ian Perry
Ian Perry combines 25 years sales, operations and general management experience in the IT industry with domain experience in the communications industry spanning wireline, wireless and IP service provider markets. After successfully building and managing communication verticals for database and infrastructure software vendors Ingres and Sybase, Ian went on to join Portal Software as Vice President, EMEA in 1998. During his four year tenure at Portal Software the company achieved a dominant market position in convergent billing and customer care solutions, supporting a very successful NASDAQ IPO, and the acquisition and integration of a major billing software engineering capability in Germany.
Since leaving Portal in 2001, Ian set up an independent consulting business active in supporting early stage organizations backed by venture capital companies, and holds non-executive board positions at Empower Interactive Group and Cloudmark.
Michael Tanne
Endeavor Group
Michael has been creating and leading software ventures for over 15 years. He is currently Principal of Endeavor Group, which launches and invests in new technology ventures. Previously, Michael was Founder and CEO of XDegrees, a leader in distributed access to enterprise file systems (acquired by Microsoft, 2002). Earlier, he was Founder and VP, Bus Dev of AdForce, a highly successful Internet ad serving provider which went public in 1999. In 1992, soon after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Michael helped entrepreneurs create technology companies as Assistant Director of the Center for Emerging Technology Enterprises in Warsaw, Poland. Michael is a Founder and Board Member of Full Circle Fund, a Bay Area non-profit that engages emerging business leaders in philanthropy through grants and hands-on assistance to promising organizations. Michael holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta and an MBA from Stanford University.
Martin Tobias
Ignition Partners
Martin is a partner at Ignition Partners and focuses on Ignition's infrastructure software investments. Prior to Ignition, Martin spent more than 15 years in operating roles in high technology companies. Martin was the CEO of Loudeye Technologies Inc, which he founded in 1997 and took public in March of 2000. Prior to founding Loudeye, Martin spent six years with Microsoft where he played a key role in the launch of Select 3.0 (the volume licensing program for corporations) and developed the company's channel policies to allow electronic software distribution (ESD). He also led operational projects critical to Microsoft International's worldwide expansion, particularly in Europe, Scandinavia and Australia. Martin received his bachelor's degree in marketing and computer science from Oregon State University. He and his wife Alex have set up the Martin and Alex Tobias Family Foundation that supports a wide variety of charitable causes.
