Secure Computing Teams with Cloudmark to Deliver Enterprise-Class Anti-spam Protection

Partnership embeds Cloudmark Authority into Sidewinder G2 security appliance to eliminate spam for large enterprises

SAN FRANCISCO — April 19, 2004 — Cloudmark™ Inc., the company that stops spam before it costs you money, today announced that Secure Computing Corporation, the experts in securing connections between people, applications and networks™, selected Cloudmark's enterprise gateway software to power the anti-spam component of its all-in-one security appliance. Secure Computing® chose Cloudmark Authority™ for its high accuracy, low false positives and low TCO, and is embedding Authority's first-ever automated spamDNA™ technology into its Sidewinder G2™ Security Appliance, which also provides application-layer firewall, anti-virus, URL filtering, SSL termination and clientless VPN access, to meet its customers' full security needs.

"Spam continues to hamper email as a social and business communications medium, and partnerships like this point out that spam filtering is a must-have IT implementation," said Brian Burke, research analysts at IDC. "Major security providers like Secure Computing are increasingly adopting new protective technologies to maintain their customers' productivity and safety. We will continue to see these vendors integrate the top-performing email filtering technologies into their solution line-ups."

"The addition of Cloudmark's spamDNA technology to our Sidewinder G2 appliance fills an important need in a comprehensive security platform," said Steve Miller, vice president of global marketing for Secure Computing. "Customer service in our industry is vital and, in that regard, the return on investment of Cloudmark Authority is in great part measured by the immediate and tangible relief our customers experience from the overwhelming spam epidemic."

Secure Computing's security solutions are trusted by major corporations and government agencies. The Sidewinder G2™ Security Appliance from Secure Computing® consolidates the widest variety of security functions in one system, thereby greatly reducing the management complexity for IT professionals. These security functions include an unprecedented Application Defenses™ firewall with application-level intrusion prevention; protocol anomaly protection; a secure e-mail, Web, and DNS gateway; anti-spam; anti-virus; IPSec VPN; IDS and response; outbound Web access filtering; SSL termination, and clientless VPN access. Cloudmark Authority, designed for large enterprises, scales with Sidewinder G2 to handle massive message throughput while maintaining 95+ percent filtering accuracy. Unlike other enterprise antispam products, Authority delivers the lowest TCO because it is fully automated, only needs updating every 30 days, and requires no new hardware to deploy. Additionally, latency impact on the message transfer agent (MTA) is negligible and, unlike many antispam products requiring minute-by-minute updates, the solution does not require a constant connection to the Internet.

"Partnering with a leading security player like Secure Computing is a true testament to Cloudmark's performance and scalability in the Enterprise," said Karl Jacob, CEO for Cloudmark. "As the antispam sector begins to consolidate, we expect to continue to see the dominant security and telecommunications providers painstakingly evaluate solutions based on immediate performance as well as long-term viability to best fit their customers' needs. We delivered on Secure Computing's needs and look forward to keeping email usable for its customers."
