PC Magazine selects Cloudmark Authority for Best of COMDEX 2003 Finalist for the second year in a row
First-ever automated spamDNA technology receives prestigious award in enterprise software category for its innovative approach to stopping spam
SAN FRANCISCO — Nov. 20, 2003 — Cloudmark™ Inc., the company that delivers spam protection to thousands of businesses, today announced that its enterprise anti-spam solution, Cloudmark Authority 2.0, has won this year's Best of COMDEX Finalist award in the enterprise software category from PC Magazine. This is the second year in a row Authority has been singled out by PC Magazine's editorial and labs staff for its technical innovation – an especially significant honor with the bevy of other anti-spam solutions at the show, as well as an announcement from Microsoft. Cloudmark is the first to deliver an automated process of capturing, analyzing and predicting spam to generate powerful spamDNA. Since winning this award last year, Authority has proven it delivers the highest accuracy with the lowest false positives and the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO), winning customers such as Documentum, Fidelity, Asics and Nolte.
"We were impressed by the quality of products we saw at this year's COMDEX. Our Best of COMDEX awards include a number of new technologies that could dramatically affect IT over the next few years," said PC Magazine Editor-in-Chief Michael J. Miller.
"In the very busy anti-spam industry, being awarded Finalist for Best of COMDEX, especially two years in a row, underscores our ability to deliver valuable, hardened software with an innovative edge," said Karl Jacob, CEO for Cloudmark. "We're honored to be chosen again for this influential award, as Cloudmark Authority continues to win ground in the enterprise marketplace."
Unlike other anti-spam products that use manual approaches to fight spam, Cloudmark introduces the first-ever automated process of capturing, analyzing and predicting spam to generate powerful spamDNA. Just as scientists predict whether someone will have a particular disease by looking for specific gene mutations, Cloudmark Authority predicts whether a message is spam by looking for specific mutations in message structure called spamGenes, a finite collection of 300 core spammer "techniques" distilled from the spamDNA data. SpamGenes are the building blocks for Authority and the reason the solution only requires updates every 30-60 days (not every few minutes like others) and calls for minimal administrative intervention. Cloudmark constantly improves Authority's effectiveness by automatically evolving the spamDNA it gets from SpamNet™, Cloudmark's peer-to-peer (P2P) community of nearly 700,000 users collaborating to fight spam. This proven solution delivers phenomenal accuracy and the lowest number of false positives all with unsurpassed performance and the lowest TCO.
