Presentation Will Explore the Business Models Driving SMS Spam and Scams
SAN FRANCISCO—April 15, 2013—Cloudmark, Inc., the global leader in messaging threat protection for communication service providers, today announced that Alan Ranger, vice president, Global Alliance Partnerships, will explore the impact of mobile messaging scams in a presentation to decision-makers in the competitive mobile ecosystem at the Competitive Carriers Associations (CCA) Annual Global Expo. The Expo, which will take place at the New Orleans Marriott from April 17-19, brings together carriers, network builders and industry influencers to share best practices, and discuss challenges and opportunities in the mobile industry.
Who: Alan Ranger, vice president, Global Alliances Partnerships, Cloudmark
What: Session: “The Unseen ROI of Mobile Messaging Scams”
Where: CCA Annual Global Expo, New Orleans, La.
When: Wednesday, April 17, 1:30 p.m. CT
As text messaging has become more prevalent, so has spam. Cloudmark estimates that 575 million spam SMS messages are sent globally per day. During his session, Ranger will focus on the business models driving mobile messaging scams. He will also explore how the evolution of mobile ecosystems has resulted in the parasitic infiltration of attackers into one of the world’s most popular communication channels.
Additionally, Ranger will address trends in messaging, including the most popular SMS spams and scams in 2012. Participants will have an opportunity to learn more about the economics behind specific mobile messaging scams and the positive and negative financial repercussions they create for scammers, consumers, companies and the wider industry.
“As mobile devices become more ubiquitous, unfortunately, so do SMS spam and scams targeting mobile subscribers. Spammers are constantly evolving and finding new sophisticated ways to catch consumers off-guard,” said Ranger. “To protect their customers, operators must arm themselves with a deeper understanding of what is driving these attacks, as well as new ways the mobile industry can collaborate to neutralize emerging threats.”
