Cloudmark Provides Industry-Leading Messaging Security to Intergenia With Cloudmark Authority for Apache SpamAssassin
Cloudmark Authority for SpamAssassin Increases Message Filtering Accuracy for Intergenia by 50 Percent
San Francisco, July 30, 2007 – Cloudmark, Inc., the global leader in carrier-grade messaging security, today announced Intergenia, a provider of hosting and broadband services in Germany, as the first European customer to deploy Cloudmark Authority for Apache SpamAssassin™. A software plug-in for service providers who have deployed Apache SpamAssassin, an open source anti-spam solution, Cloudmark Authority improved Intergenia's message filtering by 50 percent, providing the company with the industry's fastest and most accurate messaging security solution. In addition, Intergenia was able to lower operational costs by reducing message storage and system administrator resources.
Cloudmark Authority enables service providers to significantly increase filtering accuracy while cutting CPU/server requirements and the need for on-going rules administration. Prior to implementing Cloudmark Authority on SpamAssassin, Intergenia found its message filtering accuracy was around 60-70 percent. After deploying Cloudmark Authority, Intergenia's message filtering accuracy jumped to more than 97 percent, which drastically enhanced subscriber satisfaction.
"Writing rules for new attacks used to be a full time job, but we don't need to do that anymore," said Jochen Berger, CTO and founder of Intergenia. "Cloudmark Authority automatically updates our system with new threat definitions, meaning we can devote more time to other aspects of our business. Subscriber satisfaction is a key consideration for us, but we also did not want to have to re-engineer our legacy systems. Cloudmark allows us to obtain better performance from our existing infrastructure, which will help reduce future hardware investments."
"Most independent service providers are not able to make the significant investments required to replace their current environment with more robust, commercial messaging systems and even if they could, the effort of migrating users and re-training operations staff would be prohibitive," said Vipul Ved Prakash, founder and chief scientist, Cloudmark. "Cloudmark Authority for SpamAssassin enables all service providers to benefit from the same high level of accuracy and performance as tier-one service providers."
In the initial stages, Intergenia will use Cloudmark Authority to protect its premium user mailboxes.
Cloudmark Authority combines Advanced Message Fingerprinting(tm) and real-time corroborated feedback from the Global Threat Network to rapidly scan messages for all forms of abuse, including viruses, spam and phishing, using an in-memory cache of verified fingerprints that is updated every 45 seconds. Cloudmark Authority for SpamAssassin incorporates an integration layer that allows it to seamlessly plug into any existing SpamAssasin platform, enabling the solution to be deployed in as little as half an hour. There is no need for development resources or any impact on the existing infrastructure.
SpamAssassin is deployed in more than 100,000 organizations for e-mail filtering. The development of Cloudmark Authority as a software plug-in to existing legacy systems reflects the company's continued momentum and commitment to mid-market service providers. Cloudmark's solution has already been proven in the most demanding messaging environments. In the past year, seven of the top 10 ISPs/carriers in North America and leading providers in Europe have selected Cloudmark Authority to protect more than 180 million mailboxes from messaging abuses.
"SpamAssassin is the most widely adopted open source solution for content filtering," said Justin Mason, vice president of Apache SpamAssassin. "With Cloudmark Authority for SpamAssassin, users get a best-of-breed solution that easily integrates into their existing infrastructure with improved accuracy in blocking spam and malware while lowering CPU usage and storage requirements. The result is cost-effective, carrier-grade messaging security for mid-market and independent ISPs."
