Cloudmark Launches Industry's First Anti-Spam System at Email Technology Conference

Cloudmark Immunity Provides the Infrastructure to Protect the Heart of the Enterprise; Enabling Companies to Stop 100 Percent of Spam with Zero False Positives

SAN FRANCISCO — June 17, 2004 — From the first inaugural Email Technology Conference (ETC), Cloudmark™ Inc., today announced Cloudmark Immunity™, the immune system for email™. Cloudmark Immunity provides a complete infrastructure to protect the heart of the enterprise through Email Genetic Mapping™ (EGM) and nD Visualizer™ technology that, for the first time, enables perfect accuracy and the ability to store and retrieve infinite data about spam and legitimate mail. Cloudmark Immunity creates a self-adapting system that automatically learns a company's spam defense based on input from its employees. The end result is a customized anti-spam system, with a proven infrastructure capable of achieving 100 percent accuracy and zero false positives.

"To-date, companies have been able to eliminate 90 percent of the spam attacks that are hitting the enterprise. But that last 5 — 10 percent, which varies from company to company, still represents a large amount of money and productivity lost in organizations," said Richi Jennings of Ferris Research. "Cloudmark's new Cloudmark Immunity solution appears to add value in the areas of accuracy and control, which are worthwhile improvements."

Companies today are painfully aware of the toll spam takes on the enterprise. Spammers are using more sophisticated methods to enter the enterprise and are directing specific types of spam at individual corporations. While many enterprises have deployed generic spam protections that require additional hardware and frequent "rules" maintenance, they fail to completely eliminate spam as a threat to their organization, employees, customers and partners. The anti-spam applications on the market today have proven to be less effective and more costly.

"I have looked at many anti-spam solutions," said Chris Shipley, executive producer of the DEMO Conferences and renowned technology analyst. "Most of these products focus so exclusively on combating spam that they miss the wider challenges facing email management. Cloudmark, on the other hand, has built its anti-spam solution on a platform that not only eradicates spam, but establishes a basis on which to deliver substantial productivity benefits centered on enterprise email management."

Cloudmark Immunity, the first and only anti-spam solution to combine Email Genetic Mapping (EGM) with nD Visualizer technology, automatically learns the preferences of the enterprise and its employees to provide a superior defense against spam, while still allowing desired email to be delivered. Unlike rules-based or Bayesian classifiers, Cloudmark Immunity creates the infrastructure to store and retrieve information — through a one-click user feedback loop — with perfect precision, eliminating the barriers that previously kept anti-spam products from achieving 100 percent accuracy and zero false positives. Cloudmark Immunity's nD Visualizer technology clusters email messages by genetic similarity in a graphical interface, allowing IT administrators to see how Cloudmark Immunity's spam protection adapts and improves over time, enabling them to easily diagnose and optimize email infrastructure.

"Cloudmark's system is achieving 100 percent accuracy for over 15,000 people today, a number that will grow as we unveil this new system to the enterprise," said Karl Jacob, CEO for Cloudmark. "We invented Cloudmark Immunity and its nD technology to provide a self-adapting anti-spam defense that makes it possible for companies to completely eliminate spam — even if the email the marketing department wants to receive is different from what the engineering department wants to receive; or, if one employee wants credit card offers and another doesn't."

The net result of Cloudmark Immunity is low cost of ownership and demonstratable return on investment. The solution requires no new hardware, no modification to existing infrastructure, and no reconfiguration of firewalls or workstations and does not require constant updates. Cloudmark Immunity's user-defined reports quantify recovered productivity and reduced network traffic.
