Cloudmark Joins Industry Leaders in Advancing Domain Keys Identified Mail Standard
Messaging Security Leader Helps Internet Engineering Task Force Bring DKIM Technical Standard to Next Level of Maturity for Broad Industry Adoption
SAN FRANCISCO— July 20, 2011—Cloudmark, Inc., the global leader in carrier-grade messaging security, today announced that it has taken a leadership role in bringing the Internet Engineering Task Force’s (IETF) Domain Keys Identified Mail (DKIM) standard to the next level of maturity and adoption. Murray Kucherawy, Cloudmark’s principal engineer, served as co-editor on the latest version of the DKIM standard, which was approved by the IETF this week as a draft standard. This new level of maturity reflects the growing interest and viability of the standard, which is poised for broad industry adoption to enhance email security and deter fraud.
DKIM is the leading standard for adding trust back into email, assisting receiving services to correctly identify and deliver safe mail. It provides senders with the ability to attach a domain name to a piece of email in a way that cannot be falsified, paving the way for powerful new reputation and anti-fraud technologies. Additional co-editors for the latest version of the DKIM standard include David H. Crocker, of Brandenburg InternetWorking, and Tony Hansen of AT&T Laboratories
“DKIM holds tremendous promise for adding a new level of trust to email,” said Kucherawy.
“Cloudmark is proud to have played a role in this latest advancement of the standard. We look forward to helping to move DKIM to the next level of maturity and widespread production use.”
DKIM is a technology that applies cryptographic signing mechanisms to attach a reliable domain name to a message. This domain name can then be used by assessment engines (e.g., reputation) to determine the desirability of the message and route or filter it accordingly. It can also be used as a mechanism to enable other technologies, such as proving authorized use of a domain name.
To provide additional details about the company’s participation in the IETF’s standards initiatives, as well as other industry efforts to improve messaging security, Cloudmark’s Kucherawy has authored a new blog post, which can be viewed at: http://blog.cloudmark.com/2011/07/19/exciting-times/.
