Cloudmark Gains Momentum with Small and Medium Businesses in Fight Against Spam and Fraud
Company adds 400 new Cloudmark Exchange Edition customers since launch and announces a free trial for instant no-risk protection
San Francisco — November 9, 2004 — Cloudmark™ Inc., the company that delivers the immune system for email, today announced that in only four months it has added over 400 new direct Cloudmark Exchange Edition™ (CEE) small and medium sized business (SMB) customers to the thousands of other companies using Cloudmark technology. CEE is a risk-free, server-side, anti-spam and anti-fraud solution that for the first time offers a free 15-day trial. The trial is easy to download, provides immediate protection and can be instantly activated from inside the product, with no interruption to your service. To download the free trial, please visit http://cloudmark.com/server/download/.
CEE is powered by Cloudmark SafetyBar™, formerly SpamNet™, the most award-winning desktop solution proven by its customers and leading technology publications, PC World and PC Magazine, to stop over 98 percent of spam with zero false positives. By taking advantage of automatic real-time updates from the SafetyBar community of more than one million users in 72 countries, CEE delivers instant spam and fraud protection with no configuration and no maintenance —critical requirements of SMBs that often operate with minimal IT staff.
"Small and medium size businesses tell us that spam is becoming a more serious network efficiency and security concern for them," said Craig Spiezle, Director, Safety Technology and Strategy Team at Microsoft Corp. "By extending the native email server protection capabilities of Microsoft Exchange Server with Cloudmark's real-time anti-spam technology, our mutual customers now have an excellent, maintenance-free solution to help keep unwanted email traffic out of their networks so that precious company resources can be more strategically aligned."
According to a recent report by the Yankee Group, spam and viruses rank as the top two security breaches for SMB's – over 80 percent fall victim to these forms of messaging abuse and suffer major losses in business productivity.
"Beginning with the easy and problem-free installation to the intuitive administrative console, the whole operational experience has been extremely positive", said Bynumn Michie, Assistant Director of IT, Southern Methodist University's Cox Business School. "But, I think that the real measure of Cloudmark's product is the feedback that I get from the end users – everyone has commented what a difference CEE has made in eliminating inappropriate spam messages."
In addition to unmatched accuracy levels, Cloudmark Exchange Edition seamlessly integrates with Microsoft Exchange Server™, allowing for easy installation and administration, while completely eliminating client-side software and its associated configuration and maintenance costs.
"We had hundreds of SMB's using Cloudmark's desktop solution, SafetyBar, and they told us to design a product with the same results at the server level," said Karl Jacob, CEO for Cloudmark. "It made perfect sense to leverage the technology they already loved and quickly deliver the CEE solution on-demand, which has been very well received."
About Cloudmark Exchange Edition
Cloudmark Exchange Edition communicates with the Microsoft Exchange Server through Microsoft's standard Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) to receive notifications when messages arrive, and to perform various preconfigured actions on messages that have been determined to be spam or fraud.
As email arrives and the Exchange Server routes it to its addressees, CEE computes a unique signature or indistinguishable one-way hash for each message and sends it to the Cloudmark Service for evaluation. When the Cloudmark Service determines that a message is spam, it notifies the CEE server. Based on the organization's specified policy, it then tags the message in the addressee's mailbox, moves it to a spam folder, or deletes it.
Cloudmark Exchange Edition also offers reporting, so administrators can review statistics on how many messages CEE is filtering, how many users are enabled and how much time and money the product is saving the organization to demonstrate ROI and increased productivity across an organization.
