Cloudmark Grows Revenue 60 Percent, Remains the Messaging Security Leader for ISPs, Mobile Operators and Social Networking Firms Around the World

San Francisco – January 28, 2009 – Cloudmark, Inc., the global leader in carrier-grade messaging security, today announced another year of record growth in 2008. In 2008 alone, the company strengthened its share of the global service provider market, gained presence in key vertical markets and augmented its product portfolio to offer an end-to-end solution for Internet service providers (ISPs), mobile operators, social networking firms and Web hosting companies. Cloudmark's revenue grew 60 percent in 2008 and the company added more than 50 new ISPs and Web hosting customers, as well as five Tier 1 mobile operators worldwide. Additionally, for the fourth straight year, Cloudmark achieved a 100 percent retention and licensing renewal rate from existing customers. The company's growth, innovation and continued leadership make Cloudmark well positioned to thrive in the evolving messaging security industry in 2009.

2008 Company Highlights

In 2008, Cloudmark continued to focus on delivering leading messaging security solutions for ISPs and mobile operators leveraging Cloudmark Authority®, the company's flagship messaging anti-abuse platform. Cloudmark also expanded its footprint in Web hosting. Leading providers, such as Media Temple, Mailtrust, a division of Rackspace Hosting, and SureWest Communications, have all deployed Cloudmark Authority with outstanding results.

In addition to expanding its customer base, Cloudmark leveraged its expertise and technology to deliver new, innovative solutions to meet the needs of new markets. This included the launch of Cloudmark Authority® for Social Networking™, the only commercially deployed solution to combat all categories of social networking abuse, and ActiveFilter™, the first and only solution that efficiently cleans up unwanted messages delivered to the service provider mail store, dramatically improving the user experience and freeing valuable storage capacity.

Additional Company Milestones

Cloudmark reached several significant milestones that further extend the company's leadership in the market. These include:

  • Financials: Organically grew revenue 60 percent over FY 2007.
  • Market Coverage: More than 850 million mailboxes protected for more than 100 of the world's largest service providers and mobile operator networks, including the top 12 ISPs in North America, 15 Tier 1 ISP's in EMEA, three new ISPs in China and two of the largest social networking firms in the world. Cloudmark also provides protection for more than 50,000 enterprises through OEM partnerships with leading security companies, including Panda Security, Marshal8e6, MX Logic, Sendmail, Sunbelt Software and Webroot.
  • New Products: In addition to Cloudmark Authority for Social Networking and ActiveFilter, Cloudmark also unveiled its Multi-Point Security™ solution, the first end-to-end messaging security suite that protects all points in the messaging infrastructure from the network through to the user mailbox. The company also announced Cloudmark Secure Unsubscribe™, a new feature of Cloudmark Authority that enables ISPs to offer their subscribers a safe way to unsubscribe from a newsletter or mass e-mail on their Web mail interface. Additionally, Cloudmark announced Cloudmark Sender Intelligence™, a comprehensive sender reputation service that is complemented by expert human analysis that enables operators to exert greater control over their protocol filtering management.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Cloudmark expanded its relationships with service providers and mobile operators in 2008 through key partnerships, including IBM, Openwave and Critical Path.
  • International Expansion: Cloudmark expanded its operations in Japan, China and South East Asia with the appointment of country managers for sales and business development, as well as expanded technical support throughout the region. Cloudmark grew its business throughout Asia Pacific with leading service provider customers such as Sohu, NTT Communications, KCN Internet, Biglobe, So-net and Otsuka. Cloudmark's customers now include nine of the top 10 ISPs in Japan. The company also formed strategic partnerships in Japan with Fuji Xerox and TransWARE Ltd.
  • Patented Technology: In July, Cloudmark announced that it had been awarded U.S. Patent: 7,373,385 for Cloudmark's Global Threat Network™ technology, the industry's first collaborative threat detection system that consists of trusted reporting sources, including service provider abuse teams, systems administrators, honeypots and users, who report e-mail messages into the system in real time. This pioneering patented technology drives Cloudmark's unrivaled accuracy and rapid response time..
  • Industry Recognition: Cloudmark was selected as a finalist in the category of Most Innovative Company in the 2008 American Business Awards, the only national, all-encompassing awards program honoring great performances in business. Additionally, the Cloudmark Authority plug-in for the Apache SpamAssassin platform received the 2008 Excellence Award from INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine, an annual award honoring those products and services that have excelled in the VoIP/IP communications industry and have demonstrated customer success.
