Cloudmark Authority Empowers ISP Subscribers to Securely Unsubscribe From E-mail and Better Manage Their Inboxes

Innovative Unsubscribe Feature for ISP Web Mail Improves Customer Satisfaction by Enabling Users to Securely Unsubscribe from Mailing Lists and Newsletters

San Francisco—March 17, 2008 – Cloudmark, Inc., the global leader in carrier-grade messaging security, today announced the availability of Cloudmark Secure Unsubscribe, a new feature of Cloudmark Authority™. With this feature, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) can offer their subscribers a way to safely unsubscribe from a newsletter or mass e-mail on their Web mail interface. Cloudmark Authority is a carrier-grade software solution that delivers the industry's most-effective and highest-performing anti-spam, anti-phishing and anti-virus protection. Cloudmark Authority with Secure Unsubscribe allows users to continue accepting newsletters and other group mailings they want, while also enabling them to opt-out of others by simply unsubscribing.

Once a user chooses to unsubscribe, Cloudmark's service determines whether or not the sender has valid unsubscribe practices and then immediately removes the recipient from that bulk mailing list if they do. Web mail users can also rest assured that by unsubscribing through Cloudmark Authority with Secure Unsubscribe, they will not be subjected to future spamming attacks as often is the case with certain "unsubscribe" links. Cloudmark Authority with Secure Unsubscribe significantly increases the security of unsubscribing from mailing lists and newsletters and gives subscribers greater control over their inbox.

"For both subscribers and ISPs, there is a clear need for a solution that better handles the gray area of e-mail," said Jamie de Guerre, CTO of Cloudmark. "With many newsletters today, some users want the mailing while others do not. With Cloudmark Secure Unsubscribe, each user gets just what they want and ISPs are able to more accurately determine what is truly spam, leading to overall enhanced email management and an improved user experience for subscribers."

Cloudmark Authority with Secure Unsubscribe is the only solution on the market that allows service providers to offer customers the ability to safely unsubscribe from newsletters and other unwanted bulk mailings without the need to click on links embedded in the message itself—an action that can lead to the verification of a working e-mail address and getting that address added to a spammer's mailing list. Service providers have the option of offering this service to subscribers using their preferred method—through an "unsubscribe" button or any other format on the users' Web mail interface. In addition, Cloudmark Authority with Secure Unsubscribe enables service providers to automatically inform newsletter distributors that a recipient has actively opted-out of the distribution list. As a result, Cloudmark's solution helps establish more accurate categorization and reporting of newsletters, marketing messages and other "graymail". Cloudmark has partnered with LashBack, a leading provider of safe unsubscribe technology. Cloudmark has incorporated LashBack's UnsubSafe™, the company's safe unsubscribe reputation and automation technologies, into Cloudmark Authority.
