Cloudmark Appoints Kuniteru Kojima as New Director of Business Development for Japan
Technology Industry Veteran Will Support Company's Extensive Customer and Partner Base in Japan, Continue to Grow Share of the Japanese ISP Market
San Francisco and Tokyo, Japan – January 6, 2009 – Cloudmark, Inc., the global leader in carrier-grade messaging security, today announced the appointment of Kuniteru Kojima as the new Director of Business Development for Cloudmark Japan. Kojima will focus on building Cloudmark's business and technology capabilities from the company's highly successful Tokyo office, which first opened in 2003. Today, Cloudmark's messaging security solutions protect more than 850 million mailboxes for more than 100 of the world's largest service providers and mobile operator networks––this includes eight of the top 10 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in Japan such as NTT Communications, KMC Internet, Big Globe and Otsuka. In addition, Cloudmark's partners in Japan now include HP, IBM, Sun Microsystems, Sendmail, SCS and Openwave. Today's news reinforces Cloudmark's continued traction in Japan and its ongoing commitment to growing its business throughout Asia.
"We are thrilled to have Kuniteru Kojima join our growing team and lead our efforts in the Japanese market," said David Somerville, regional vice president of Cloudmark. "Cloudmark has already gained significant traction in Japan among both ISPs and partners and we are committed to providing them with the highest level of service and support. With Kuniteru's proven track record of helping propel technology companies in Japan, we look forward to having him on board to continue this work and further expand our market share and leadership position in the region."
Kuniteru Kojima brings almost 30 years of sales, marketing and development experience in the IT industry to his new position. Prior to joining Cloudmark, Kojima served as vice president of Asia Pacific Operations for Sendmail, Inc. and president of Sendmail Japan. Under his stewardship, Sendmail added six distributors, including Fujitsu SSL, Hitachi Soft, Toshiba Solutions and NEC System Technology, and eight of the top 10 ISPs in Japan, including So-net/Sony, Biglobe/NEC and Yahoo! Japan. Prior to Sendmail, he served as president of several leading technology companies, including Turbolinux and Object Design. Kojima has also held senior management, marketing, sales and development positions at Cheyenne Software, where he contributed to sales growth from $2.4 million to $18 million in two years, as well as Sybase, Stratus Computer, Tandem Computers and Japan Direx. Kojima is a graduate of Waseda University and he received a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Tokyo Graduate School where he has also lectured with the Faculty of Physics.
"Japan has long been one of the first adopters of new messaging technologies, especially on the mobile platform, and as a result the country has become a hotbed of messaging abuse," said Kuniteru Kojima. "For service providers in Japan, protecting their networks and their subscriber base must be a priority. No other messaging security solution delivers the level of filtering accuracy, performance and protection against all forms of messaging abuse that Cloudmark delivers, especially when dealing with spam, phishing attacks and viruses written in Japanese. It is no surprise that Cloudmark has already experienced significant traction in Japan and I am excited to help the company continue to grow its operations and be part of its future success in Japan."
