Cloudmark announces Cloudmark Exchange Edition, the server-side anti-spam solution for small and medium businesses providing instant protection and zero maintenance

Leverages the market's most accurate anti-spam desktop product, Cloudmark SpamNet, to deliver 97+ percent accuracy out of the box

SAN FRANCISCO — April 26, 2004 — Cloudmark™ Inc., the company that stops spam before it costs you money, today announced the availability of Cloudmark Exchange Edition™ (CEE), the easy-to-use, server-side, anti-spam solution, specifically for small and medium businesses (SMB). CEE is powered by Cloudmark SpamNet™, the most accurate desktop solution as proven by customers and PC Magazine two years in a row, to stop over 97 percent of spam automatically without losing business emails. By taking advantage of automatic real-time updates from the SpamNet community of more than 900,000 users, CEE delivers instant spam protection with no configuration and no maintenance to meet the needs of SMBs that often operate with little to no IT staff.

"Keys Energy deployed CEE for 175 employees and has stopped 26,000 spam emails over just six weeks," said Perry Hill, IT administrator for Keys Energy. "CEE consistently achieves 98 percent accuracy with very few false positives, providing important protection for our employees who don't work solely in the office. CEE keeps employees spam-free on the road as well."

Cloudmark Exchange Edition seamlessly integrates with Microsoft Exchange Server™, allowing for easy installation and administration and does not require client-side software. While other solutions can be complicated and require constant maintenance leading to high support costs, CEE delivers a proven anti-spam solution that requires no IT resources to maintain. By tapping into the SpamNet service, CEE customers get the same high accuracy rates as SpamNet users. In addition, CEE's server-side solution eliminates desktop controls, driving increased employee productivity.

"An executive and several employees were running SpamNet at the desktop level, and were telling me about its high accuracy," said Rubens Rahim, CIO for Redknee, headquartered in Canada. "I wasn't going to consider individual desktop licenses for our 250 employees, so we tried CEE. It was a snap to install; the impact on our server has been negligible. CEE effectively runs itself, requiring no maintenance."

Cloudmark Exchange Edition joins Cloudmark's line of anti-spam solutions specifically tailored to meet the needs of each customer segment. Cloudmark services start at the desktop with its popular SpamNet product serving well over 900,000 users and scales to large enterprises with its gateway software solution, Cloudmark Authority™, which includes customers like the Government Services Agency (GSA), Documentum and American Century Investments.

"Listening to the needs of customers that fell in between our gateway and client-side solutions compelled us to build this solution for SMBs, especially given most of these people already use and trust SpamNet," said Karl Jacob, CEO for Cloudmark. "Customer feedback to date has been in-line with our goal for CEE – to deliver a solution that is safe, simple, maintenance-free and proven to deliver incredible accuracy out of the gate."

According to the Yankee Group, spam and viruses rank as the top two security breaches for SMBs – over 80% fall victim to security breaches which lead to a major loss in business productivity. Cloudmark Exchange Edition protects businesses from all email threats to meet the specific needs of SMBs including:

Instant spam protection - Install and it works automatically with no configuration.

Maintenance-free - Automatic real-time updates from a community of over 900,000 members.

Most Accurate - Stop spam without losing business emails by leveraging the most accurate desktop product, proven by PC Magazine and customers. In addition, CEE users enjoy the same protection from viruses, worms, spam and even the most devious fraud messages as the SpamNet community does.

Safe - A Group of trusted SpamNet users has to vote a message as spam for it to end up in the spam folder eliminating false criticals.

Simple to use for end users - Spam is automatically moved to the Spam folder, which the end-user can have access to.

About Cloudmark Exchange Edition:

Cloudmark Exchange Edition communicates with the Microsoft Exchange Server through Microsoft's standard Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) to receive notifications when messages arrive, and to perform various preconfigured actions in users' mailboxes on messages that have been determined to be spam.

As email arrives and the Exchange Server routes it to its addressees, CEE computes a unique signature or indistinguishable one-way hash for each message and sends it to the Cloudmark Service for evaluation. CEE does not block the regular flow of messages, so its operation has no impact on throughput. When the Cloudmark Service determines that a message is spam, it notifies the CEE server. Based on how CEE is configured, it then either: Tags the message in the addressee's mailbox, moves it to a spam folder, or deletes it.

Cloudmark Exchange Edition also offers reporting, so administrators can review statistics on how many messages CEE is filtering, how many users are enabled and how much time and money the product is saving the organization to demonstrate ROI and increased productivity across your corporation.

In addition, CEE is simple to use for end users as spam is automatically moved to the Spam folder. While CEE greatly simplifies administration and keeps software and configuration off the employee's desktop, it also provides finer control if individual end users or administrators decide they want it. Some customers choose to run CEE and the SpamNet client together to add the ability for their employees to Block and Unblock email as appropriate.
