Cloudmark Announces Availability of Cloudmark Desktop for Mozilla Thunderbird
Award-Winning Spam Filter Now Available for Mozilla Thunderbird Users
San Francisco, December 3, 2007 – Cloudmark, Inc., the global leader in messaging security, today announced the availability of Cloudmark Desktop™ for Mozilla Thunderbird™. Cloudmark Desktop is an award-winning spam filter that offers the industry's highest accuracy in blocking spam, virus and phishing attacks and has been rated best-in-class by leading consumer publications in the U.S. and Europe.
Previously available only for Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express, Cloudmark Desktop is now available for the Mozilla Thunderbird client, an extremely popular free e-mail client with several million users and more than 50 million downloads since inception1. Currently, there are few spam filtering options available for Mozilla Thunderbird users that are effective against the growing volume and sophistication of spam, phishing attacks and e-mail borne viruses.
"With the growing sophistication and proliferation of messaging abuse, there is increasing demand for desktop e-mail security solutions," said Leon Rishniw, vice president of engineering at Cloudmark. "Cloudmark Desktop already has achieved significant traction among Outlook and Outlook Express users. Our solution for Mozilla Thunderbird represents a natural extension of the Cloudmark Desktop product, allowing Thunderbird users to have mailboxes free of unwanted messages, saving them valuable time and protecting them from malicious social engineering attacks."
Cloudmark Desktop is effective in blocking unwanted messages regardless of format or language, including new forms of image and PDF spam, along with virus attachments and phishing attacks, with greater than 98 percent accuracy. Cloudmark Desktop's high accuracy is driven by a unique combination of Advanced Message Fingerprinting™ algorithms together with real-time feedback from Cloudmark's Global Threat Network (GTN), a community of 260 million trusted reporters worldwide.
Cloudmark Desktop was designed to plug seamlessly into the Thunderbird toolbar and appears as a single, dynamic button with drop-down options that keep the Thunderbird interface virtually unaltered. In addition, Cloudmark Desktop does not slow down computer performance and, unlike other anti-spam solutions, does not require a separate application window. Cloudmark Desktop is extremely simple and easy to use--it installs in minutes, begins working immediately, and requires no configuration and no rules or lists to manage.
Also unique to Cloudmark is the ability for users to stop future spam and virus variants by simply clicking the "Block" button on their Thunderbird toolbar, which reports spam messages back to Cloudmark. Cloudmark analyzes and corroborates the feedback, usually within minutes of the initial outbreak, to offer near real-time protection against new e-mail threats.
Additional features of Cloudmark Desktop for Mozilla Thunderbird include:
- "My Rating"--Cloudmark displays a users' trust rating, based on the accuracy and frequency of their reporting, enabling users to see how their individual feedback contributes to the community.
- User and Community Statistics--Enables users to see how well Cloudmark Desktop is working through individual and community-wide spam blocking statistics.
- "User Detection Action"--Allows users to easily manage messages identified as spam by selecting from three options: delete instantly, age messages, or leave messages in inbox and tag as spam. Once this function has been set, users no longer need to manually manage spam folders.
- Approved Smart List--Enables users to import a list of "good" senders from their address book, ensuring receipt of all legitimate messages.
- Drop-down Menu Links--The Cloudmark drop-down menu also enables users to access an online tutorial, Cloudmark Technical Support, My Rating and My Cloudmark Account, where users can manage their personal accounts.
